In different Tariqas, different Latifa are, are begun first and then second and then third but in Naqshbandi Tariqa they begin from Alam Amar not from Alam Khalq. That means they begin with QALB, Heart. Why do they begin from Heart because you know that this piece of meat which is called Heart is very important and important to the extent that The Prophet Salalahu Alayhi wa Salam has said that “Alaa inna fil jasadi Mudghatan”, it is in Bukhari Shareef, in 4th juz of Bukhari Shareef, this Hadith. “Alaa inna fil jasadi Mudghatan”, you should know that in your body there is a one piece of meat, “iza salhat, salhat jasadu kuluhu”, if it is refined, then the whole body is refined, “wa iza fasadat, fasadat jasadu kuluhu”, and if it is not purified then the whole body is not purified. If the Heart is purified, whole body is purified, and if his Heart is not purified, whole body is not purified. The words are, “wa iza fasadat, fasadat jasadu kuluhu”, if it is impurified then the whole body would be impurified. “Alaa wa heeal Qalb”, and that it is the piece of Heart, which is called HEART. Followed? So, Prophet Salalahu Alayhi wa Salam has told us and pointed out to us that this is something very important.

(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4.52)

And In other Hadith, in other sayings of The Prophet Salalahu Alayhi wa Salam, at one place, Prophet Salalahu Alayhi wa Salam says,

(Source: Sahiḥ Muslim 2564)

Allah SWT does not look at your outward features and your wealth but he looks at your heart.”

“InnAllaha la Yanziru illa Suawarukum wa Amwaalukum” Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala does not look at your outward features whether you are beautiful, whether your skin is white or Black, “InnAllaha la Yanziru illa Suawarukum”, Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala does not look at your features, outward features, “wa Amwaalukum”, apart from features Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala does not look to your wealth also, whether you are wealthy or you are poor, does not look at your features, you are beautiful or Black, does not look to your wealth, whether you are wealthy or poor, “Wal Yanzur Alaa Quloobukum wa Amaalukum”  But He looks to their hearts, He looks to your hearts, and then to your deeds. So, from this one can understand that heart or hearts are very important things. Therefore, in other Tariqas also this lesson is to be completed but in Naqshbandi Tariqa, in our Tariqa we begin from this, we begin from this.

When we start making Zikr what do we mean by this. First thing is that we obey the order of Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala where he says

[Quran 2:152]:

You make my Zikr, you remember me, and I will remember you.”

And at the second place Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala says that

(33:41):

whenever you make my Zikr remember me, remember me as much as possible.”

And at the third place Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala says in Holy Quran (73:8)

that the way of making Zikr is:

وَٱذْكُرِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا

You make my Zikr in a way that you forget everything else

When you are making my Zikr be Drowned in that, forget yourself, forget Zikr, and be drown in the Mazkoor. It means one thing is man who makes Zikr, and second thing is Zikr itself, and the third thing of whom he makes the Zikr, he makes zikr of Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala, so we should be drowned in the third stage, Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala. We should be, think about him and forget our body and also making Zikr, to this extent we should make Zikr and the object from this is that our heart should become alive, it is dead. The more we make Zikr, it will be alive, so that, it is said, as we already know, that for 24 hours we should make Zikr, 24 hours, day and night while sleeping or we are waking, we should be thinking about this. Zikr does not only mean beating of the heart, our thought should be there. That our heart say Allah Allah Allah and Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala is present, He hears and sees. So, this Zikr, this kind of Zikr would make the heart alive, alive. And then the next stage would be that this heart, after such a Zikr, would become lightened, lightened first some darkness of it will be removed then more and more and more till our heart would begin to shine and not shine but would be just like this electricity that you see, these bulbs. It will be as purified as this. Not as purified as this, much more and much more than this.

Just as Prophet Salalahu Alayhi wa Salam has told us the importance of the heart, Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala also in His Holy Quran (26:88) says, what does He say? He says:

The day of resurrection would be such that neither your wealth nor your awlaad, what does this mean? your children, would benefit.

The day would be such that, you would not be benefited by your wealth and by your children.

But only one who brings the pure heart, peaceful heart, refined heart he will be benefited and he will get from Me salvation.

That means Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala also has persisted and has said clearly that it is only upon the purification of heart that this thing can be done. But how it can be purified? Know Prophet has said that this should be purified. He called his Sahaba Karaam and told them that this heart is to be rusted, it gets rust. They said “how it can be purified Sir?” He said “this can be purified by remembering death, by reciting Holy Quran and by making Zikr.” Then make Zikr.

And Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala, when He pointed out this clearly, also has given us the prescription for this, that how can it be purified?

Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala says (Holy Quran 13:28):

“It is only with Zikr”, “Alaa”, with this. This word in Arabic means, that without that there is no other duty.

It is, it is with My Zikr, that this heart can be purified”, it, which means, it may be refined.

Therefore, it is proved that it is only Zikr, which is necessary for the purification of the heart. And therefore, Allah Subhana hu Ta’aala has said that you make my Zikr and make Zikr more & more so that you will get salvation.
