An Important Lesson from Hazrat Sheikh Syed Manzoor Hussain(Rt), English translation below:

ایک دفعہ حضرت شیخ سید منظور حسین رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ نے فرمایا کہ کسی کو بھی اپنے علم اور سمجھ کو کامل اور مکمل نھیں سمجھنا چاہیے، اور جو بھی خیالات یا کوئی بھی علم ہو وہ ہر ایک کے اپنے خیالات اور سمجھ کے مطابق ہوتا ھے ،اور اس کو ایسے ہی بیان کرنا چاہیے کہ میری سمجھ اور خیال کے مطابق ایسا ھے، مگر یہ ضروری نہیں ھے کہ اس کا خیال صحیح بھی ھو،ھر کسی کا خیال اور سمجھ مختلف ہوتی ھے، ہر کسی کے مختلف درجات ہوتے ہیں، اور کس درجے کا کس کا خیال صحیح ھے وہ بھی مختلف ہوتے ہیں، اور تیسری بات یہ ہے اگر خیال صحیح بھی ہو تو ھو سکتا ھے کسی اور کا خیال یا سمجھ اس سے بھی زیادہ صحیح ہو ،اس سلسلے میں حضرت شیخ(رض) نے ایک مثال بیان فرمائی کہ ایک دفعہ حضرت امام ابوحنیفہ رح سے پوچھا گیا کہ عقلمند انسان کون ھے ،تو انہوں نے فرمایا کہ عقلمند انسان وہ ھے جو نیکی اور بدی میں تمیز کر سکے، یہ بات بالکل صحیح بھی ھے، سوال کرنے والاحضرت امام جعفر صادق (رض) کی خدمت میں آیا اور یہی عرض کیا، تو حضرت امام جعفر صادق رض نے فرمایا کہ یہ جواب صحیح ھے ،مگر اگر کوئی مجھ سے پوچھے تو عقلمند انسان وہ ھے جو دو نیکیوں میں تمیز کر سکےکہ کون سی نیکی زیادہ بہتر ھے،اور دو برائیوں میں تمیز کر سکے کہ کون سی برائی زیادہ بری ھے،کیونکہ نیکی اور برائی میں تمیز کرنا آسان ھے ،حضرت شیخ رض نے ہمیں سمجھایا کہ مثلا” کوئ پوچھے کہ قرآن شریف پڑھنا بہتر ھے کہ زنا کرنا، تو ظاہر ھے کہ قرآن پڑھنا بہتر ھے، مگر زیادہ عقلمندی یہ ھے کہ وہ یہ تمیز کر سکے کہ نماز (نفل) پڑھنا زیادہ افضل ھے کہ قرآن پڑھنا ؟آپ اس کو کیسے سمجھیں گے، اس لئے مختلف خیالات، رائے اور سمجھ میں فرق ہوتا ھے ،اور بہتر اور اعلی کونسی ھے، کس کو (ترجیحا”) پکڑنا چاہیے اور کس کو چھوڑنا چاہیے، یہ سمجھنا ضروری ھے، حضرت شیخ نے سمجھانے کے لئے مثال بیان فرمائی کہ کسی صحابی سے پوچھا گیا کہ اچھے سے اچھا عمل کونسا ہے؟ سب سے بہترین دن کونسا ہے؟ اور مہینے میں کون سا مہینہ سب سے افضل ہے؟ اور ان سوالات کا جواب انہوں نے دیا کہ أعمال میں اچھے سے اچھا عمل نماز ھے، اور دنوں میں بہترین دن جمعہ کا ھے ،اور مہینوں میں بہترین مہینہ رمضان ھے، وہ سوالی حضرت علی رض کے پاس آیا اور یہی سوالات و جوابات عرض کیے، حضرت علی (رض) نے فرمایا کہ یہ جواب گو کہ بالکل صحیح ھیں اور ان سے اچھا جواب شائد نہیں ہو سکتا، مگر جیسے کہ حضرت علی کے متعلق رسول اللہ صلی اللہ و علیہ وسلم کی حدیث مبارک ھے کہ”میں علم کا شہر ہوں اور علی رض اس کا دروازہ ہیں”، تو حضرت علی (رض) نے فرمایا کہ گو کہ جوابات بالکل صحیح ہیں، مگر میرے مطابق مہینوں میں سب سے اچھا مہینہ وہ ھے جس میں گناہوں سے توبہ کر کے اللہ کی طرف رجوع کیا جائے، حضرت شیخ نے سمجھایا کہ اگر رمضان کا مہینہ ھے سب روزے رکھ رھے ہیں اور کوئ شخص شراب پی رہا ھے تو رمضان کا مہینہ اسے کیا فائدہ دے گا ؟حضرت شیخ (رض) نے مزید سمجھایا کہ یہ صحیح ھے کہ رمضان کے مہینے میں شیاطین باندھ دیےجاتے ھیں، مگر اگر ہم خود ان سے رجوع کرنے لگیں تو شیاطین کیا کریں، رمضان ہمیں کیا فائدہ دے گا، پھر آگے بیان فرمایا کہ حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ نے دوسرے سوال کے جواب میں فرمایا کہ ان کے خیال میں دنوں میں بہترین دن وہ ھے جس دن خاتمہ ایمان پر ہو، پھر حضرت شیخ (رض) نے مزید سمجھایا اگر مثلا”جمعہ کا دن ھے اور خاتمہ ایمان پر نہیں ھو تو جمعہ کا دن کیا فائدہ دے گا، پھر آگےواقعہ مزید بیان کیا کہ حضرت علی نےتیسرا جواب فرمایا کہ گو کہ بےشک اعمال میں نماز بہترین عمل ھے، مگر ان کے خیال میں بہترین عمل وہ ھے جو اللہ تعالی کے یہاں قبول ھو، پھر حضرت شیخ نے اسے ایسے سمجھایا کہ چھوٹا عمل اگر قبول ہو گیا ھے اور نماز قبول نہیں ہوئی تو پھر مقبول عمل چاھے چھوٹا ھی ھو زیادہ بہتر ھے، اور وہ جو نماز یا عمل جو اللہ تعالی سے ملانے کی چیزیں ھیں ا گر ریاکاری سے کی جائے تو فائدے کے بجائے وبال جان ہو سکتی ہیں۔

English translation:

Once Hazrat Sheikh Syed Manzoor Hussain (RT) said that no one should consider that his knowledge and understanding is perfect. Whatever is one’s thoughts or knowledge, it is in accordance with his understanding, and it should be expressed as such that in accordance wih my understanding and thought it is so. But his thought may not be necessarily correct, every one’s thought and understanding is different , everyone’s ranks are different, and the level to which any one’s thought is correct is also different, and the third thing is this that even if a thought is correct, still the thought or understanding of someone else might be even better. Related to this Hazrat Sheikh (RT) gave an example that once Hazrat Imam Abu Hanifa (R.A) was asked that who according to him is a wise person. He replied that the one who can differentiate between good and bad is a wise person, this reply is also quite correct. The person with his question then presented himself before Hazrat Imam Jaffer Sadiq(RA) and asked the same question. He while endorsing the earlier response said that although the answer you got is correct but if someone asks me that who is a wise person, I would say wise is the one who can differentiate between two good deeds that which good deed is better , and who can evaluate between two bad deeds that which bad deed is more evil , as its easier to distinguish between good and evil. Hazrat Sheikh(RA) explained that for example if some one asks is it better to recite the Koran or to get involved in adultery, then obviously the answer is easy that the recitation of the Koran is better, but the greater wisdom is to understand that whats better between two good deeds, like what is better, the offering of nafl(optional) salat or recitation of Koran? How would you determine this? Therefore, there is difference in opinions, thoughts, and understanding, and it becomes imperative to understand which is better, what to prefer & choose and what to leave. Hazrate Sheikh(RA) gave another example of the Prophet’s (SAWS) companion (RA), who was asked that which is the best of the best deeds, which day is the best day and which is the best month of all months? He replied that the best deed is salat, Friday is the best day and Ramadan is the best of all months. The questioner then went to Hazrat Ali(RA) with the same questions and told him the answers he had received. Hazrat Ali RA, (for whom the Prophet’s SAWS hadith mubarak is that I’m the the city of knowledge and Hazrat Ali R.A is its door)then responded that although these answers are infact correct and quite right, but according to me the month in which one repents for one’s sins and turns towards Allah Ta’ala is the best month, Hazrate Sheikh (R.A) explained this that if in Ramadan all are fasting and someone is drinking alcohol then what would be the benefit of Ramadan to such a person & though its right that ‘shayateen’ (demons) are bonded in Ramadan but if we ourselves approach them then what can they do, what would be the benefit of Ramadan to us. He then continued that Hazrat Ali (RA) answered the second question that he thinks that of all the days the best day isthe one in which a person dies with faith(‘iman”). Hazrat Sheikh (RA)then explained this, that if one dies without faith on Friday then what would be the benefit of Friday to such a person. He then further narrated that Hazrat Ali (RA) then replied to the third question that although no doubt that salat is the best of all deeds, yet in his opinion the best deed is that which is accepted by Allah Ta’ala .Hazrate Sheikh R.T explained this that if a small deed is accepted and salat is not accepted then the accepted deed even if small is better, and if salat or any deed, that are means to get close to Allah Ta’ala, are done with hypocrisy and deception then instead of being advantageous, it becomes a burden.
